Project Overview

I designed the digital marketing materials for the Reptile Discovery Expo, a fictional multi-day event focused on reptile education and conservation. The goal was to introduce the event and persuade users to attend through emotionally driven design and a cohesive visual system. My work included developing the concept, establishing the visual direction, creating a developer-ready webpage in Figma, and producing supporting promotional assets.

Goals and Deliverables

The aim of this project was to make reptiles feel exciting and approachable while presenting event details in a clear and engaging way. I created a unified visual system that worked across web, social media, and physical event materials.

Deliverables included a full marketing webpage, one Instagram post, a three panel billboard, a social media graphic, an event lanyard, and a branded tote bag.

Moodboard

My moodboard explored color, texture, and atmosphere to define how the expo should feel. This visual foundation guided the tone of the design and helped create a sense of curiosity and excitement.

Mind Map

I began ideation with a mind map centered on the word reptile. From this starting point I began to think about habitat, exploration, movement, texture, and patterns. This exercise helped me identify storytelling opportunities and visual motifs for the rest of the project.

Sketches

I created sketches to explore homepage structure, image placement, headline hierarchy, and ways to bring energy into the overall layout. These sketches helped clarify the flow of information before I began digital design work.

Webpage Iterations

I iterated through multiple layouts, especially refining how the snake motif would appear throughout the page. After testing several placements and scales, I landed on a version that felt balanced, readable, and connected to the event’s narrative.

In the early iteration, you can see where I questioned whether the snake concept was too complex to execute. As the iterations progress, the design shows how I worked through that challenge and ultimately resolved it.

Reflection

This project pushed me to design with emotion at the center. I learned how to build a unified visual language, how to iterate with purpose, and how to apply a concept across multiple mediums. Most importantly, I explored how design can reshape perception and create excitement around a topic that might feel unfamiliar or intimidating.

Working on the Reptile Discovery Expo strengthened my ability to combine storytelling, research, and visual design into a persuasive and cohesive experience.
